X-Ray Services

Our radiographers use x-rays in low doses to produce images that help to diagnose and manage diseases. Unlike other forms of radiation, x-rays can easily pass through body tissues making it possible to provide images of internal structures without performing surgery.

When is a Digital X-Ray Used?

X-rays are used to diagnose a wide variety of conditions including:

  • Fractures - X-rays can be used to diagnose fractures which are breaks in the bones.
  • Heart Diseases - X-rays can be used to assess heart function and diagnose heart diseases.
  • Cancer - X-rays can be used to detect cancer and assess its spread.
  • Pneumonia - X-rays can be used to diagnose pneumonia which is an infection of the lungs.
  • Limb Measurements - X-rays can be used to measure the length of legs and arms.

What Happens During a Digital X-Ray Procedure?

You may be asked to stand or lie down on an examination table, depending on the part of the body to be examined. You will be able to communicate with the practitioner during the procedure.

Ultrasound Services at LMC Radiology

Ultrasound Scans

Ultrasound is a technique using sound waves reflected back from the tissue in the body to create an image. The sound waves are of high frequency and cannot be heard by human ear. The sound waves are emitted and received by a transducer placed upon the skin. A clear gel is used between the skin and transducer to assist sound transmission.

There is no radiation involved and there are no known harmful effects. Ultrasound is mainly used in:

  • Obstetrics and Gynecology
  • Assessing soft tissues such as muscles and tendons
  • Investigation of abdominal organs
  • Musculoskeletal Studies
